This plan sounds ok but this would clash with club meetings so would have less people there
Also would the entrance fee be balanced as 4 x £8 would be over what it would be to attend the 1 race meeting. Maybe need a 4 weekend price deal.
Also would ladies and juniors be able to race? Some would want to be racing.
Plan B 🤔 fingers crossed we won't need it with the advancement of medical science. However great idea to look ahead with a solution that could run with reduced numbers. Yes we probably wont have quite the same atmosphere with less cars at one event but we are where we are. With the emphasis on being fluid in 2021 as hopefully things will change (for the better 🤞) during the first half of the year could this option be plan C. Plan B of having a nationals over 2 weekends be planned out also in case government advice allows a big enough event on to provide this. Overall great to have ideas put out early by the board for discussion at membership level on a forum we can all get access too. Well done to the board for listening in 2020 and adapting to the situation 👏
If it's still the case that travel between Ireland and the uk is restricted, where does that leave the Irish grassing community in regards to nationals 2021?
Almost certain on the fixture list that if the restriction is still in place that they will have there own
I have to look at it from an Irish point of view. SIAL is the largest league in NASA. A proper National cannot go ahead if you are going to exclude the biggest league and over 10% of the membership. Spreading the Nationals over 4 weekends would not work. Around €2,000 on ferries is not feasible. Having an Irish and British Nationals does not seem like a solution either unless NASA would class them both as equal meetings. My opinion from an Irish point a view it is all or nothing.
You are never going to please everyone, it is good that options are being considered - even if some are unhappy with the outcome, hopefully it will only be for one year and better than no Nationals at all!
Brilliant to have a plan A and plan B. Just an idea, maybe have qualifiers split into four regions and then a national championship with restricted numbers for the top ten from each region with a live stream. Moving forward if this was to work maybe regional qualifying would be the way forward instead of league qualifiers so as to have the top 40 cars at the ultimate championship of the year.
I was thinking about this today. Have 2 or 3 leagues with a combined qualifier. You could still have club/leagues qualifiers but have a regional ‘final’ the finalists then get to attend the nationals.
Maybe even go to five regions so as the members from Ireland can qualify on home ground incase they are unable to travel during qualifying and have the top 8 drivers from each class and region.
Has live streaming been considered if spectators numbers are restricted. Not sure if its a huge cost but I am sure pay per view would make money for the Host club and cover cost? Spedeworth have done this on all meetings now. Their big meeting such as banger World final had thousands of viewers pay.
Im surprised this hasn’t been done already. The technology is out there, we just need someone to organise it. We also need to market it properly to get a good number of viewers. All something that I’m sure we could do if we work together on it
This would be epic and makes sense but the only issue I see is most of the locations we race at are very remote with very little signal at some. Spedeworth and stadiums are blessed with Wifi. But if there was a way I would deffo support it 🙌🏻
Nick there must be a way. I don’t know what the answer is but I’d be more than happy to help find out.👍🏻👍🏻
I am prepared to get shot down here for being ‘negative’ however I really am not being negative, just trying to be realistic. Here goes. I think we should cancel all two day meetings for 2021 indefinitely and concentrate on club racing for 2021. This will give us chance to plan a proper season that is actually more than likely to go ahead, even out the fixtures in the calendar and plan for mini championship series between local leagues with plenty of notice and time. Possibly even the winners of local series could automatically qualify for a place at 2022 nationals? I haven’t thought of logistics there but I’m sure there are plenty of options and incentives that could be earned this year to carry over for next year. There are lots of people who race to win the nationals but there are more people who race to have good, enjoyable racing?
